About Oliver Tambo International Airport (JNB)
Address: Johannesburg International Airport, Johannesburg, 1620, Gauteng
Oliver Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, the biggest and busiest airport in Africa, is a modern world-class airport offering a convenient location, accessibility and connectivity. It is ideally situated northeast of Johannesburg, South Africa's commercial hub, but also close to Pretoria, the capital city.
The cities of Johannesburg, Pretoria and Centurion are in reality merged, to form the greater Tshwane/Gauteng metropolitan area. To drive from one end to the other can take hours, but the roads are well sign-posted.
From the airport one can reach a large number of stunning destinations, like game and nature reserves, mountain retreats and many more.
The Oliver Tambo International Airport is located on the R24 Airport Freeway, which can be accessed via the R24 and the R21 highways. This highway goes through the airport terminals, separating them from the parking bays, ensuring quick access.
The international and domestic terminals are in the same building, within walking distance. The check-in counters for international and domestic departures are conveniently located in the same area, but arrivals are split. It is easy to negotiate the airport and signage is clear.
Oliver Tambo Airport car rental facilities are situated in the covered car park area adjoining the main terminal building. Airport car rental offices are open during airport operating times, so you will always be able to collect or drop your vehicle without hassle.

Tips and advice
South Africans drive on the left side of the road, passing on the right.
Some cities and towns have unfamiliar ‘local’ names, and road signs might be difficult to understand. It is recommended that you get a GPS, set to follow highways and not the shortest route.
In summer you will need a car with air conditioning, as it is not ideal to drive with open windows.
Roads around Johannesburg can get quite congested during peak hours, so do allow for extra travelling time.
By selecting the full-to-full fuel option when you rent a car, you can avoid extra fuel charges. For your convenience, there is a fuel station next to the airport terminal.
If you wish to change currency, it is best to do at the airport. There are service providers in the departure and arrivals areas.
