About KLM (KL)
Founded in 1919, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL) is the national airline of the Netherlands and the oldest airline in the world (operating under its original name). From its hub at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the carrier operates a network of routes to 145 domestic, regional, and international destinations. As a member of the SkyTeam Alliance and as part of the Air France-KLM Group, the airline serves an additional 133 destinations in 70 countries. Counting codeshare agreements, the airline flies to a staggering 826 destinations worldwide. Its international hub in Amsterdam is the third-largest in Europe.
Statistically, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, and Los Angeles are KLM’s three most popular destinations, while the top 15 routes are apportioned among 12 countries. In terms of weekly departures, London leads the way with around 70 departures, with Berlin trailing behind at 48. Other popular destinations include Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Geneva, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Barcelona, and Rome. The U.S. has the largest share of KLM’s market for international flights, with more than 68 weekly flights split between L.A. and New York, while Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, and Washington D.C. serve a significant number of passengers. For travelers to and from Oceania, KLM offers long haul flights between Amsterdam and Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Auckland.

Tips for KLM Passengers Renting Cars
Read the terms and conditions of your car hire agreement. You’ll save yourself a lot of money and heartache by being aware of restrictions, exclusions, and fine print policies that may not come up at the point-of-sale.
KLM car rentals include Collision/Loss Damage Waiver (CDW/LDW), Theft Protection (TP), and unlimited mileage as standard. Excess (deposit) amounts are significantly higher than what you might expect from other vendors. Here on this site, depending on your residency collision damage excess waiver can be purchased at cheaper rates than you will be charged by the car rental suppliers.
Unlike many other airline car rental arrangements, KLM does not offer an exclusion for drivers under 25, and in fact, you must be 26 years or older to rent a car with the KLM tie-in.
Some European and many Australian locations will allow booking with a debit card. For example, debit cards are accepted in Paris, France, provided you have enough money in the account to cover the excess and additional deposits. The same cannot be said about rentals in the majority of other places.
The credit card used to make the reservation must match the name of the primary renter and driver; otherwise, the car hire agent has the prerogative to withhold the rental, as well as any amount already paid toward the car.
You can cancel your KLM car rental up to 48 hours before the rental date without penalty. Within 24 hours, you’ll get a partial refund.
